It was an early start to the morning at just seven degrees Celsius outside in Maple Ridge. I stepped into the fully charged MX-30, turned on the heating and set it to 22 degrees. I connected my phone and made a few calls before departing. A few minutes later, I turned on the wipers, the morning radio and set my phone down to charge. As it was still dark out, I turned on my lights before setting off.
I took the Barnet Highway to Coquitlam and diverted up to the top of Westwood plateau to pick up my mother-in-law from my brother-in-law's house before driving back down the mountain and onto Maple Ridge.
In total, approximately a 40km drive, up a mountain, with plenty of electronics on, and in rush hour traffic. It all added up to just about 75min with the car on.
I got home with 75% battery left. As someone with a daily commute just slightly longer than that (to and from work), I wouldn’t be surprised if I only had to charge the MX-30 every two days. It might even be able to take me further out on the weekends without inducing any range anxiety. By having a light, sustainably designed battery, I really could appreciate the engaging and fun driving dynamics that Mazdas are known for. Mazda calls it "Hashiro Yorokobi" (the joy from driving), and it’s definitely still here.
